Canberra Health Services (CHS) is focussed on the delivery of high quality, effective, person centred care. It provides acute, sub-acute, primary and community‐based health services, to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT)—a catchment of approximately 400,000 people. CHS administers a range publicly funded health facilities, programs and services including but not limited to:

· The Canberra Hospital: a modern 600-bed tertiary hospital providing trauma services and most major medical and surgical sub-specialty services.
· University of Canberra Hospital Specialist Centre for Rehabilitation, Recovery and Research: a dedicated and purpose-built rehabilitation facility, with 140 inpatient beds, 75-day places and additional outpatient services.
· Mental Health, Justice Health, Alcohol and Drug Services provide a range of health services from prevention and treatment through to recovery and maintenance at a number of locations and in varied environments for people suffering from mental health issues.
· Four Walk-in Centres: which provide free treatment for minor illness and injury.
· Seven community health centres: providing a range of general and specialist health services to people of all ages.
· A range of community-based health services including early childhood services, youth and women’s health, dental health, mental health and alcohol and drug services.

Overview of the work area and position:

The Pharmacy sits within the Office of the Executive Director of Medical Services (EDMS) which includes the Physician Training Office, Medical Officer Support, Credentialing, Employment and Training Unit (MOSCETU), GP Liaison Unit (GPLU), Pathology, Pharmacy, Medical Imaging and Library Services.
The Canberra Health Services (CHS) Pharmacy Department have a dynamic, talented team of approximately 100 staff, including: pharmacists, technicians and administration staff. The department provides a range of clinical services to inpatients and outpatients including a number of specialised services.

Overview of the work area and position:

An exciting development opportunity exists to work as a part of the Quality Use of Medicines, Research and Education team. This position will be required to provide a range of pharmacy services on weekends and after hours as rostered. The hospital has multiple work locations and all staff may be required to work at both The Canberra Hospital (TCH) and UCPH (University of Canberra Public Hospital) sites as rostered.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

· Appropriate pharmacist qualifications and currently as a pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Australia (AHPRA)
· Postgraduate qualifications in Clinical Pharmacy, Management, Education or Research or extensive clinical pharmacy experience deemed equivalent.
· Be registered under the Working for Vulnerable People Act.

· Hold a current driver’s licence.

Please note prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:
· undergo a pre-employment Police check.


Under broad direction, and in conjunction with the Director and Deputy Directors of pharmacy services:

1. Provide leadership and facilitation of all education and training activities (including evaluation) provided both within and from the pharmacy department:
· Oversight and mentoring to preceptor and co-ordination of preceptor activities.
· Assisting clinical Lead Pharmacists to provide education to external professional staff as needed.
· Assist the DDOPs in the planning and implementation of Pharmacist, technical officer and other support staff educational activities, orientation and competency assessment.

2. Provide advanced level clinical pharmacy services across the range of clinical units of CHS.

3. Proactively develop own knowledge and expertise to serve the functions of the role and the department, keeping abreast of emerging trends in clinical pharmacy services and pharmacy education.

4. Represent the pharmacy department through professional leadership and advocacy, and liaise with internal and external agencies as required, including national pharmacy and education networks.

5. Promote safe, efficacious, and economical use of medicines.

6. Develop and contribute to practice based research, medication safety initiatives, accreditation activities, policy and procedure review, strategic planning and service review, and quality improvement projects relevant to pharmacy education services in coordination with the QUM and management teams.

7. Undertaking other duties as directed, within the approved scope of clinical practice ensuring the delivery of high-quality person and family centred, safe and high-quality patient care.

1. Proven commitment and expert level of competence in the leadership, management and provision of education and training programs to pharmacy staff, students, and external professionals and stakeholders.

2. Demonstrated high level of competence, expertise, skills and ability to apply clinical judgment in a range of clinical pharmacy services including (but not limited to); Medical, Surgical, Critical Care, Women’s and Children’s, Rehabilitation and Aged care, Mental health, Justice Health and Drug and Alcohol Services, coupled with a demonstrated high level of commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.

3. High level interpersonal and communication skills in a written and oral format. This will involve the maintenance of a supportive work environment as well as the ability to consult, negotiate and liaise effectively with consumers and colleagues.

4. Demonstrated experience in the development, evaluation and maintenance of departmental improvement programs, policy and procedures, medication safety initiatives, research initiatives and accreditation activities.
