Join our new pharmacist bank for an opportunity to work flexible hours in different roles across Victoria’s largest health network.

About the Role:

  • Provide ward pharmacy services within a unit-based clinical team, collaborating with medical, nursing and allied health clinicians to ensure medication safety and optimising medication management outcomes for patients.
  • Provide dispensary services in a hospital outpatient clinic and discharge setting.
  • Work across our different sites, including Monash Medical Centre, Monash Children’s Hospital, Moorabbin Hospital, Dandenong Hospital, Casey Hospital, and the Kingston Centre.
  • Work is available on weekdays between 8am and 8pm. Most shifts are 8 hours.

About You:

  • Must be available to work casual hours during weekdays
  • Current registration as a pharmacist with AHPRA
  • No experience in a hospital environment is required
  • Ability to work effectively in interprofessional teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to continued professional development and education
  • Has a positive “can-do” attitude and displays initiative and reliability
  • Relevant post graduate qualifications (desirable)

Things you need to know

The Monash Health Pharmacy department is offering a four-day seminar for pharmacists to develop the skills required to work in a hospital environment. Topics include:

  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Introduction to ward services
  • Inpatient medication supply and formulary
  • Antimicrobial stewardship
  • Therapeutic drug monitoring
  • Reviewing medication charts
  • Dispensary services

The seminar will consist of presentations and workshops and will include an evaluation of skills on the fourth day. The seminar will be held on 18 April, 25 April, 26 April and 2 May from 8:30am to 5pm. EMR training will occur on Day 1 of the Seminar to scaffold the remaining training program. Our final selection process will be based on your performance at the seminar.

The seminar program has been accredited for 12 hours of Group-1 CPD (or 12 CPD credits) suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan. The accreditation number is S2019/13.

The program addresses pharmacist competency standards, including:

  • Standard 1.5.4 Use professional autonomy
  • Standard 1.6.2 Monitor and respond to sources of risk
  • Standard 2.3.1 Use appropriate communication skills
  • Standard 3.1.1 Obtain relevant health and medicines information
  • Standard 3.1.2 Assess medication management practices and needs
  • Standard 3.1.3 Collaborate to develop a medication management strategy or plan
  • Standard 3.2.3 Dispense medicines (including compounded medicines) in consultation with the patient and/or prescriber
  • Standard 3.2.5 Provide counselling and information for safe and effective medication management
  • Standard 3.2.6 Facilitate continuity of care including during transitions of care
  • Standard 3.3.1 Undertake a clinical review
  • Standard 3.3.2 Apply clinical review findings to improve health outcomes
  • Standard 3.3.3 Document clinical review findings and changes in medication management”
